Default Vista

Does anyone here use windows vista or is planning on getting it? To me, it looks too imac-ish. I'm gonna stick with XP for a while unless there are sizeable benefits of using vista. Quite frankly, the security system would really piss me off based on what I hear about it. Discuss?

I know just about nothing, but I avoid using newer things by Microsoft. I avoided using Windows XP for a long time, and kept using Windows 2000. As said, I don't know anything really, but they've added alot of graphical effects right? I wonder how much system resources that eats... ,_,
A new security system? "Nope, you can't do this, becuse this isn't made by us", "SHIT SOMEONE SENT YOU AN MP3 ON MSN, IT'S A VIRUS! REMOVING!" (happends in XP too though). ,_,

Oh noes! Not the ninja smiley! It always reminded me of Odin...oh the nostalgia. I haven't had a lot of problems with XP's security system. I disabled it and obtained my own anti-virus shit.

I tried vista few hours on my boss laptop. It seems to eat a lot of computer resources. It's really heavy to run.

I didn't notice any new cool stuff.. It looks better and all gadgets on desktop etc are nice. First seems it has nothing but a new look. Besides there are programs that lets you have vista look on your xp too.

We have some problems installing drivers and getting all printers work on vista. Support isn't very good yet.

Security was annoying too.. it asks too many times if I want to do that and that and if I press that one I can die.

I would say wait at least half year before moving and read more reviews and try it out yourself at some place before buying. I'm not gonna buy it for sometime.. and been thinking about moving to mac instead :P

Blech... Macs are the devil! The only game you can play on them is photoshop... which isn't really a game at all. D=

Not sure if you still check out the forums but...
I currently run Vista and I personally love it. I prefer it (on my desktop) than XP (on my laptop). It doesn't seem to eat a lot of resources, it looks pretty, and you can turn off that security thing (aka UAC: User Account Control). If you've got a decent desktop, I'd suggest updating. If you have a laptop, you might not want to update to premium - just stick with standard edition (not as pretty). The graphics are nice, but they do use SOME resources, and older laptops have trouble with it. The new new ones (yes, I purposefully repeated myself) are more capable though.

IMO, Vista gets a thumbs up unless you use some really obscure hardware.

Cool beans. Thanks for the reply, Ra. I still kick around here obviously.
I got a new computer and ended up getting XP may upgrade to Vista eventually but ah, I'm kind of stuck in my ways.

I bought Vista along with a brand new computer a few months ago and while I don't have a real problem with it, I can't help but long for the XP's alledgedly better performance in games.

As for the UAC, yeah it's a pain and in some cases not that simple to turn off.
I tried to be cute and safe by having separate admin and user accounts but I just couldn't stand having to enter the admin pass every time i wanted to move or rename a desktop or start-menu icon! So I turned it off... which made my savegames and bookmarks disappear because apparently they were tied to the admin acc and with UAC off the user acc couldn't access them. Fantastic. It's really just an application installation issue but it's still a bother.
So I'm back to running everything on the admin account. Network security be buggered.

I just find the situation with different Windows awkward. XP has a great track record and despite all the brave talk about axeing it, Microsoft haven't been able to.
The only reason to use Vista (gaming wise) is if you want slighty better DX10 lighting...
And now the next Windows is already on it's way!
